How to Remove Text from a Photo Without Leaving a Blurry Patch
A date stamp, a caption, a greeting you no longer need: here is how to erase text from your own pictures online so the repair looks natural, in 5 simple steps.
You open an old photo and there it is: an orange date stamp in the corner, a caption that no longer fits, or a greeting on a card you painted for last year’s occasion. You paint over it, and what you get is a smudge. Here is why that happens, and how to get a clean result instead.
Why most text removal looks blurry
The usual shortcut is to blur or smear the area until the letters vanish. Blur removes detail, and your eye notices a soft patch in the middle of a sharp picture. The second common shortcut is stamping many small round copies of the background, which leaves a repeating, dotted pattern. Both are easy to spot.
A clean repair does the opposite: it replaces the letters with real texture from the same picture, in one continuous piece, and then blends the edges so the light and colour match.
What you need
- Your own picture (JPG, PNG or WEBP).
- A browser, with nothing to install. With Erasora your picture stays on your computer and is never uploaded.
- Two minutes.
Step by step
- Open your picture in Erasora. Drop the file on the page. Zoom in on the text so you can see the edges of the letters.
- Choose Erase → Normal. Set the brush a little wider than the thickness of the letters. A brush that is too big pulls in colours from far away; one that is too small leaves ghost edges.
- Paint in short strokes. Follow the line of the text and lift your finger or mouse often. Short strokes give the tool fresh material each time and avoid long, obvious streaks. On busy backgrounds (leaves, fabric, crowds), go letter by letter.
- Fix what is left with Copy From Source. If a small ghost remains, press Set Source, click a clean area that looks like the surroundings (same colour, same texture), and paint over the ghost. The blue circle shows exactly what is being copied.
- Blend, then export. Move the Edge, Colour and Texture blend sliders until the repaired area melts into the picture. If it looks slightly hazy, add a little Dehaze / Clarity (20–40) and a touch of Sharpen.
Five small habits that make a big difference
- Work at 100% zoom or more. Mistakes are invisible when you see the whole picture and obvious when you print it.
- Match the source to the spot. Copy sky for sky, wall for wall, grass for grass.
- Mind the light. If one side of the picture is brighter, copy from the same side.
- Don’t clean it all in one go. Two light passes beat one heavy one.
- Look at it small. Zoom out; if you can’t find the repair, you are done.
Line drawings and colouring pages
For a black-and-white drawing, turn on Black & white line drawing. Erased areas stay pure white and your lines stay crisp, so you never end up with grey smudges.
Then write something new
Once the old text is gone you can type your own words in Custom Branding Stamp. It is a simple way to turn a card you painted for one occasion into a card for another.
A note on fair use
Erasora is made for artists and photographers working on their own pictures. Removing someone else’s watermark or signature is not what it is for, and it is not allowed.
Try it on your own picture. Free, in your browser, nothing is uploaded. → https://erase.multiproductx.com
Questions
Does the picture leave my computer? No. Everything runs in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to a server.
Is it free? Every tool is free, with 5 free exports every 30 days. Erasora PRO gives unlimited exports.
What if the text is on a very detailed background? Use short strokes, go letter by letter, and finish with Copy From Source taken from a similar area.
